Do you yearn to know what we are, and why we are here, before you die?
by sabastious inlets face it, we don't know what humans are.
science is doing a good job at uncovering many facts about us, but even science cannot explain consciousness yet.
conciousness is still a strong mystery to us.

Why are men not allowed to do the bible study parts at the service meeting?
by garbonzo ini know why they do it, because the women would complain, but it's not logical, the men need to be trained on how to conduct a bible study with a student, also.
if it doesn't matter, why are the sisters doing it?
just to give them something to do?

Any sins you got away with?
by fade_away ini was reading a thread on here that got me thinking.. what is the purpose of confession if not another method of mind control?
back in ancient israel, confession was just this thing you did if you were a good jew.
just like observing sabbath, fasting.. you get the point.

i just tried absolution online, but even missing mass is a sin there... and sacrilege too... no way i fast that much.
but i only got 1151 hail marys and 54 our fathers along with 4 weeks of fasting. but that's maybe because i didn't value my sins all too serious.

I just attended a talk by Richard Stallman of the Free Software Foundation
by J. Hofer inand boy, it was almost like a geek kingdom hall.
he talked about moral issues and what's right and wrong.
that doing the right thing might require sacrifices and what not... i mostly enjoyed the talk, but some of the words he used were reminding me a lot of what i heard in the kingdom hall.. but on a funny twist he put on a robe and a halo made of an really old computer disk and proclaimed the church of emacs.

well he said VI VI VI is the number of the beast ;)
he actually wasn't talking about free in the sense of gratis, but free like freedom. ie: programming for money is good. not giving the source code to the client so the client can check on what he's really running on his device, change it to his/her needs or redistribute it is unethical. that sort of thing. he does hold a grudge on just about everyone from microsoft and sony to apple even to linus thorvalds... the talk was fun and interesting for the most part, but he's more of a philosopher than a business man.. or so you would think. i guess he does make quite a living just by giving talks like that.

the quiet one, if you want a quick overview of many contradictions of biblical accounts, including the gospels, head over to skepticsannotatedbible.com
and you seriously believe the flood story? i mean... really??? i grew up a jehovah's witness and not even as a child i fully bought into this... it just doesn't make any sense.

but on a funny twist he put on a robe and a halo made of an really old computer disk and proclaimed the church of emacs. and he said it's the only church where you can be a saint without celebacy. i guess he doesn't take all of the stuff he tells so serious and just exagerates a few things to get his point across.
anyway, has been a nice afternoon, beer and burgers and chicks and all that, you know... i've never been to university, but i surely envy students now.

Unrest in the Governing Body
by JWFreak inone of the many questions that i am asked is what are the current gb members like, who are the hardliners and who are more moderate.. because of my previous job, at a european bethel, i had dealings with most of them with the exception of sam herd.. these are my observations of my conversations with them and how others who had dealings with them.. other ex bethelites may have contrary views to mine, but i would be surprised.. i had spent a lot of time with splane, lett and morris.
hardliners.
david splane, without doubt the one who commands the most respect and attention.

1 day = 1000 years or so. or even 7000 or undefined.
i often heard those stories and was surprised when i heard the same things from mormons and other lunatics.
one of my friends tells a story about his mom always seing things moving in a painting until they threw it out. but he forgets the fact that his mom is on medication due to the jehovah faith. even had a nervous breakdown or two.
